Sporting Jax Secures Late Draw Against Tampa Bay Sun
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Sporting Club Jacksonville (Sporting Jax) secured a point in the Gainbridge Super League following a 1-1 draw against in-state rivals Tampa Bay Sun FC on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Hodges Stadium. The home side utilized a late goal to erase a deficit, extending their current unbeaten streak.
The match began with a controlled pace, though Tampa Bay Sun broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. Forward Sydny Nasello netted the opening goal, giving the visitors an advantage that they defended through the remainder of the first half and much of the second. Sporting Jax demonstrated offensive intent, maintaining a significant majority of possession and registering 15 total shots throughout the contest. However, converting chances proved challenging for the Jacksonville club.
The equalizing goal for Sporting Jax came late in the second half. In the 83rd minute, Ashlyn Puerta found the back of the net, marking her seventh goal of the season and leveling the scoreline at 1-1. The late strike shifted the dynamic of the final minutes, as Sporting Jax pressed for a potential game-winner.
In the final moments of stoppage time, a cross into the Tampa Bay box led to a close-range shot from Baylee DeSmit, but the Sun defense executed a clearance to preserve the draw. The result keeps Sporting Jax in fourth place in the league standings. Tampa Bay Sun, while still seeking a win in the early stages of their season, collected a point on the road.

FHSAA Basketball Championships to Move to Jacksonville's UNF Arena in 2026
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Boys and Girls Basketball Championships will be held in Jacksonville for a three-year period beginning in 2026, as announced yesterday in a joint press conference hosted by the Jacksonville Sports Foundation at Vystar Arena.
The move will bring the state championship games to the University of North Florida's UNF Arena. This marks the first time in nearly 50 years that the basketball finals will be held in Jacksonville. For the past three decades, the championships have been hosted in Lakeland.
The agreement will commence with the 2026 championships. The Rural classification championships are scheduled for February 24-27, followed by the Class 1A-7A championships from March 5-14. "We're thrilled to

begin this new chapter for our basketball state championships at the University of North Florida,” said FHSAA Executive Director Craig Damon. He noted that the UNF Arena is a quality facility and that Jacksonville presents an opportunity to broaden the event's reach. UNF Arena has a seating capacity of over 5,100 and has been the venue for various collegiate and community events. Recent renovations to the facility include updates to the court, lighting, and sound systems.
Local officials expressed their support for the move. "This new partnership with the FHSAA is a slam dunk for our city,” stated Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan. Representatives from the Jacksonville Sports Foundation also highlighted the potential for a significant economic impact on the city, as the tournaments will draw student-athletes, families, and fans from across the state. For Jacksonville Sports Foundation executive director Samantha Vance, winning the hosting rights for FHSAA basketball helps "further cement Jacksonville's standing as a premier sports destination."
"Everybody gets to enjoy the results and the impact from the folks coming in to visit our city," Vance said. "So it's major for our city. We're going to see a lot of growth." The relocation of the championships is part of a broader effort by the Jacksonville Sports Foundation to attract more sporting events to the city.
The foundation has been involved in bringing other FHSAA championship events to Jacksonville in recent years, as well as top tier college match-ups, such as the upcoming Jacksonville Hoops Showdown between reigning national champion University of Florida and the Miami Hurricanes. JSF is already setting its sights on other major sports events to be hosted locally. “I want to see March Madness here,” said Vance. “I want to see the NFL draft here. I want to see the Super Bowl here, back again.”

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Brooklyn Kings defeated the Jacksonville Axemen 34-18 to win the USA Rugby League (USARL) National Championship. The match took place on August 9th at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. The Kings secured their second national title, while the Axemen, despite a strong effort, fell short in their quest for a fifth championship.
The Brooklyn Kings started strong, with Anthony Russo scoring twice early, and maintained a dominant performance throughout the match, ultimately securing their second national title. The Axemen, despite a strong second-half surge, couldn't overcome the early deficit and Brooklyn's strong play. The Axemen did manage to score some points, including a try from Jason Martin before halftime, and tries from Ryan Bannerot and Kyle McCollum in the second half, but Brooklyn ultimately pulled away.
Brooklyn's forward pack dominance and a strong second half performance, including 24 unanswered points, were key to their victory. The Axemen, while showing resilience, couldn't match the Kings' overall strength.
The Kings will now aim for back-to-back titles in 2026, while the Axemen look to bounce back in their 21st season.

ATLANTA, GA – Manchester United hoisted the Premier League Summer Series trophy on Sunday, August 3, 2025, after a successful pre-season tour of the United States culminated in a hard-fought draw in Atlanta. The Red Devils capped off their impressive American campaign with a 2-2 draw against Everton in the final pre-season series before the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Throughout the multi-city tournament, United displayed a blend of tactical discipline and attacking flair. The series provided an opportunity for manager Ruben Amorim to test new formations and integrate recent signings into the squad. The team secured victories in earlier matchups against West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth. Their performances were met with enthusiastic crowds across the country, highlighting the Premier League's ever-growing popularity in the US, with ManU receiving the lion's share of fan support.
The decisive match, held at a packed Mercedes-Benz Stadium, saw United face off against rival Everton FC in a tightly contested affair. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring on 19 minutes from the penalty spot, before Iliman Ndiaye equalised emphatically for Everton just before half-time. Man Utd substitute Mason Mount curled in a fine finish to restore his team's lead in the 69th minute, but the Toffees drew level again when Man U's keeper Altay Bayindir conceded Heaven's own goal. But the 2-2 draw was enough for the Red Devils to secure the Summer Series win.
The Summer Series provides more than just a piece of silverware; it serves as a morale boost for one of the most storied sports franchises in England after coming off a disappointing 2024/2025 campaign. For the thousands of American fans in attendance, it was a thrilling conclusion that showcased the excitement of Premier League football. Manchester United and the other participating teams will now return to England and prepare for the upcoming season, which starts on August 15th.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Rory McIlroy triumphed in a playoff at the 2025 Players Championship, securing his second victory at TPC Sawgrass. After a tightly contested final round, McIlroy and J.J. Spaun found themselves tied, forcing a Monday playoff due to weather delays.
The playoff was conducted using a three-hole aggregate format. McIlroy blasted his opening tee shot and hit a pitching wedge to the par-5 16th to set up birdie, and then he found the island green at the par-3 17th with a 9-iron into the wind at TPC Sawgrass that effectively gave him a second title at golf's richest event.
Each golfer finished Sunday’s final round with a score of -12. There hadn’t been a playoff at the Players Championship since 2015 when Rickie Fowler defeated Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner, so TPC Sawgrass was due for another climactic finish.
McIlroy became the eighth multiple winner of the Players Championship, having also won in 2019. And it's the first time in his career he has won twice heading into the Masters. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last month.
The Players Championship has grown into one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional sports and is the signature event of the PGA Tour.
In winning the event on Monday, McIlroy, who will climb to world number one in the rankings, became the sixth player in the event’s history to have on the PGA Tour’s showpiece event in a knockout and the eighth to have won the Players more than once.

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Laetitia Beck earned her first professional victory on Saturday at the Epson Tour's Atlantic Beach Classic golf tournament, posting a final round 66 to win the event by three strokes over Sophia Schubert. The 33-year-old Beck is in her 11th season as a professional, spending time on the LPGA and Epson Tours, but was still in search of her first victory on either Tour.
Beck survived the first round in extremely windy conditions, managing to finish the day at even par. For the second round the weather turned chilly but the wind subsided, allowing Beck to post a three under par 68. In the final round, which saw the best conditions of the week, Beck posted a bogey-free 5-under 66 to become an Epson Tour Champion.
Beck, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, has won the Israeli Open Golf Championship five times, including for the first time when she was 12 years old. Beck attended Duke University from 2010 to 2014, where she played golf for the Blue Devils. On Saturday she had to play her best golf down the stretch, including two more birdies on the back nine, to keep away a surging Sophia Schubert of the United States. Schubert tied the 18-hole tournament scoring record, turning in an 8-under 63. But with a three stroke lead after 16 holes, the last two holes were stress free for Beck, rolling in two short par putts on her way to the winner’s circle.
The win moves Beck into the top spot in the Race for the Card, having tied for third last week at the season-opening Central Florida Championship. She will look to continue her impressive Florida swing next week at the IOA Golf Classic presented by Aperture in Longwood, Florida, as she seeks to regain her LPGA Tour card.

Florida Gators Men's Basketball Sweeps Past North Florida with a Decisive Win at Home
Florida improved its record to 12-0 with a 99-55 win against the University of North Florida Ospreys on Saturday before a sell-out crowd at Exactech Arena/O'Conner Center on the UF campus in Gainesville.
Will Richard scored a career-high 26 points to lead the UF men. He

Sam Alexis chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Gators. Alex Condon had 12 points and 10 boards. And Thomas Haugh finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Gators extended their best start since beginning the 2005-06 season with 17 consecutive wins. The 54-point margin of victory is the program’s largest in 17 years.
The Ospreys (7-6), who defeated South Carolina and Georgia Tech earlier this season, were unable to get anything going and trailed 54-17 at the half. Jasai Miles and Liam Murphy led the scoring for North Florida with 13 points apiece.
Florida closes the non-conference portion of its schedule at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 against visiting Stetson (1-10) while North Florida opens league play January 2 at home against Austin Peay (4-8).

The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Tennessee Titans 10-6 on Sunday, ending the Titans' slim play-off hopes.

The Jaguars scored the final 10 points of the game, with Tank Bigsby rushing for a touchdown and Cam Little kicking a field goal. The Titans were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities, ultimately falling short. This victory marked the first win for the Jaguars in their last six games, bringing their five game losing streak to an end. The Jaguars (3-10), were eliminated from the postseason this past week for a second consecutive season. The Titans, meanwhile, saw their play-off hopes evaporate as they were able to score only 3 points in each half of yesterday's game.
University of North Florida Men's Soccer Defeats the University of Central Arkansas to Win the 2024 Atlantic SUN Championship. The Ospreys earned their second ASUN Conference Championship after a 4-3 win on penalty kicks against Central Arkansas on their home field inside Hodges Stadium.
The scoring got started early with UNF getting on the board first in the 10th minute on a goal by Anton Khelil off an assist from Rentaro Miyakawa. The Central Arkasa Bears pulled even in the 14th minute on a goal by Devonte Richards. Richards then gave UCA a lead when he put a shot in the low left of the goal that got past goal tender Luciano Natoli in the 22nd minute. David Perez scored a goal in the 39th minute for North Florida that sent the teams into the half tied up.

In the 67th minute, Joaquin Acuna put the Ospreys ahead again with a goal to low center. Richards completed the hat-trick for the Bears with his equalizing goal in the 73rd minute. The score remained tied at the end of regulation and the ASUN Championship Final headed to overtime for the first time since 2012.
Neither team could produce a goal during the two ten-minute overtime periods, which led to the first final to be settled by penalty kicks since 2007. Richards netted his penalty kick for UCA, but Khelil answered for the Ospreys. Pietro Fontana and Tyler Prebenda both were successful to keep the teams tied at two.
The first penalty kick miss came from the Bears and then Rafa Rios put UNF ahead 3-2. Pharis Petrica made his attempt for Central Arkansas and was followed by a miss from Perez. UCA was unsuccessful on its fifth attempt and then Acuna connected on a shot to secure the title for UNF.
Acuna was named the ASUN Tournament MVP to headline the Ospreys on the ASUN All-Tournament Team. Tyler Prebenda, along with Khelil and Perez, rounded out the postseason tournament honors for UNF in the championship game.
By winning the championship, North Florida is an automatic qualifier and will represent the ASUN in the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. Their first round opponent will be announced during the selection show on Monday, Nov. 18.

However, Florida found its stride toward the end of the half. Richard exploded for eight straight points to cut the Bulls’ lead to 36-33 and banked home a jumper at the first-half buzzer. Mediate and Bob Estes both stood at 12 under par at the end of the final round on Sunday. The players returned to the 18th tee for the first playoff hole and came away with pars. Mediate made a 10-foot putt after Estes came up with a clutch 15-footer. On the second playoff hole Estes found a fairway bunker and then hit his third within 15 feet of the hole. He missed the par putt, giving Mediate, whose second shot came to rest at the front of the green, his opening. Mediate stroked a 40-foot lag putt that came to rest 3 feet from the hole. He closed out the win, draining the 3-footer for his first trip to the winners circle since 2019.
